Stop 1: Nott House Tour: 11:00 A.M., 45 minutes in length. Meet in the gardens of the Nott House

In 1853, Charles Perkins, the wealthiest man in town, married Celia Nott, the daughter of a town minister. The Greek Revival Nott House tells their story. Enter the elegant mansion reflecting the days of gracious living with fine antique furnishings, oil paintings and decorative arts. Hear the stories of maritime entrepreneurs and the tales of family travels to France and the French Court. Learn about architecture and lifestyles of 19th century Kennebunkport.

Stop 2: Lunch: 11:45 A.M. to 1:00P.M. on the Shaded Stone Patio in the Nott House Gardens

Take pleasure as you stroll the fragrant gardens that roll down to Mast Cove and enjoy a Lobster Roll Lunch from Port Lobster on the shaded stone patio.

Port Lobster, Inc. is renowned for its local fresh lobster, hand-picked and served in a delicious toasted roll. This box lunch includes coleslaw with homemade dressing, chips, a locally made mini Whoopie Pie, and a beverage.

Stop 3: Guided Village Historical Walking Tour ¡V 45 minutes in length, covers approximately 1.5 miles of walking

After lunch, join an experienced tour guide who will walk with you through Kennebunkport¡¦s tree lined streets explaining architectural styles of the 18th and 19th centuries. You will hear the stories of the famous artists, authors, shipbuilders, and sea captains who lived in these houses. Envision the activity of the wharves, the Rum Warehouse and visit the site of the last working ship yard on the Kennebunk River. Learn how 5 miles of ¡§nearly worthless¡¨ coast became a thriving summer community in the 1880s and 1890s with dozens of sprawling shingle style cottages inhabited by people from Boston and New York. These were days of luxury and leisure. By the end of the tour you will understand how the village of Kennebunkport has evolved over the last 300 years.

1-2 hours, depending on your level of interest.

Located in a block of 19th-century buildings in Kennebunk's historic district, the Brick Store Museum presents the history and arts of the Kennebunks through permanent and changing exhibitions. Explore the exhibitions at your own pace, with staff and volunteers always available to answer questions.

Permanent exhibitions include Windows on the Past: Kennebunk's History Through Architecture, featuring 42 buildings included in the historic district; Treasures of the Community, featuring early American fine and decorative art; and Salon Style, featuring 32 paintings from 1830-1920 by a number of different artists.

Other exhibitions on view: The Preservation Movement Then and Now (open through July 16, 2011), describing the historic preservation of buildings and properties over the years; Learning is an Ornament (open through September 30, 2011), describing education in the Kennebunks from earliest settlements through today

Upcoming exhibit opening June 22: Impressions of a World Traveler: Early 20th Century Travel Through the Eyes of Edith Barry, looking at the travels of the Brick Store Museum's founder.

There are additional smaller changing displays that we call History Showcases.

Stop 1: Guided Walking Tour of Kennebunk Historic District: 10:30 A.M. (117 Main Street, Kennebunk)

Take a stroll through Maine's very first Historic District (often known as Summer Street), established in1963 and named a National Register Historic District in1974. Learn a bit about the architectural features of these homes, the majority of which were built during the shipbuilding era along the Kennebunk River. The focus, however, will be on the people who lived in these homes and their roles in the history of the Kennebunks. This walking tour takes between 60 and 90 minutes to complete.
