The Kennebunks are known nationwide for hosting several major events, most notably Christmas Prelude, which recently earned Kennebunkport the honor of being named the #2 Christmas Town in America by HGTV. This spirited 10-day Christmas celebration is our busiest time of year – even busier than the Fourth of July!
Christmas Prelude is just one of many special events throughout the area catering to the every budget, age and interest. In February, many of our local inns offer affordable February is for Lovers get-away "couples" packages don't forget to visit Main Street for Winterfest. In May, Kennebunk features its annual May Day Celebration, and President Bush Sr. and Mrs. Bush often partake in the Kennebunkport Memorial Day parade festivities. In June, the Kennebunkport Festival, a celebration of fine food, art and wine is a crowd pleaser! In July, many of our lobstermen take visitors out to watch our spectacular fireworks just off from the Colony Hotel.
In September and October, the Trolley Museum hosts its annual Pumpkin Patch Trolley family fun weekends, and many farms throughout the region host fall festivals and crafts fairs. Even Halloween is celebrated in grand style, when hundreds of trick-or-treaters can be seen haunting Kennebunk's Summer Street and its gracious Victorian mansions. From family oriented activities and traditional bean suppers to upscale performance arts events, there's never a lack of reasons to visit the Kennebunks year-round.
